Description
ComEth3300b is a highly integrated Layer 2+ Ethernet switch
providing 24 10/100TX Ethernet ports and 6 Gigabits ports. This
product, built on a single height 6U board, runs in a VME chassis
that only provides 5VDC power supply.
Twenty four Fast Ethernet channels are routed on rear P2
connector. According to the version, the additional Giga Ethernet
channels can be are available (0/2/4) on rear P0 connector or
(4/2/0) on the front panel. The front Giga Ethernet ports are
available 1000BT (RJ45) or fiber (LC) interfaces. In the dual
configuration, the Gigabit transceivers automatically select the
media (copper or fiber) with activity. According to the selected
Fiber transceiver, the ComEth 3300b provides a SX, LX or WDM (one
fiber for duplex link) interface.
ComEth3300b is available in both air and conduction-cooled
formats. The ultra low-power design and the thermal
monitoring make the integration easier.
Auto-crossover, auto-polarity, auto-negotiation and automatic MAC
address ma-nagement make the ComEth3300b a true Plug&Play layer2
switch.
This switch is fully upward compatible with ComEth3300. It
provides more Giga Ethernet ports and adds some L2 enhanced
functions as port aggregation, traffic rate shaping, etc.
Managed
capabilities
ComEth3300b products are proposed as
end-user switches with IC’s SwitchWare embedded software.
ComEth3300b acts as a full Layer 2/3 managed switch. It can be operated
from a browser, PC Windows application or optionally SNMP. The entire
functionalities can be easily managed and monitored. This switch is
powered by a PowerPC. Software updates can be downloaded and stored in
Flash memory.
The Enhanced Switchware package provides
additional Layer 3 routing functions, allowing local IP forwarding
(IPv4/ IPv6), static and dynamic protocols (RIP, OSPF) routing,
proxy-ARP and DHCP-relay. These L3 functions are usable through a CLI
interface. ComEth3300b combines in a single equipment a layer 2+
switch and a layer 3 router.

Twenty four auto-crossover 10/100BT on
P2 and up to four 10/100/1000BT ports available on P0 (Max 6 GE front
+ rear).

Switch Management
Onboard
firmware are implemented with Power on Built-In Test, maintenance
functions and network (BootP/DHCP) updating functions.
Management software provides a wide range of configuration functions
on any port : transmission speed/mode, VLAN, RST/STP parameters,
mirroring, etc.
Supervision
functions get lots of information in real time on the switch status
in particular the local temperature.
MIB and RMON counters and private information are reachable from
SNMP agent, HTTP web-browser via Ethernet.
This
Open Application, named SWITCHWARE, is carried
out by a PowerPC processor running under LINUX.
