Description
ComEth
3200b is a range of highly integrated Layer 2/3 Ethernet switches. The
switching capability provides up to sixteen 10/100BT and eight
10/100/1000BT front Ethernet ports.
8 Fast and 4 Giga Ethernet ports are
available with the one slot version. The two slots wide version provides
16 FE and 4 GE plus additional ports thanks to an extension board. A set
of four Giga channels or/and N * 8 Fast Ethernet channels can be added
with specific mezzanines.
A standard extension is available with 4
Small Form Pluggable transceivers slots. Thanks to this independent open
interface the customer can add several type of optical or 1000BT
transceivers on the switch.
ComEth 3200b is compatible both with VME
or cPCI 6U systems. This switch is fully upward compatible with
ComEth3200. It provides more Giga Ethernet ports and adds some L2 and L3
enhanced functions as the port aggregation, traffic rate shaping, etc.
Its ultra low-power design
together with the thermal monitoring makes it ideal for integration in
high-demanding application.
The new family, formed by ComEth3200,
3300b & 5100b, provides an optimized switch solution for Fast and
Giga mixed network for any system configuration.
Managed capabilities
ComEth3200b products are proposed as
end-user switches with IC’s SwitchWare embedded software.
ComEth3200b acts as a full Layer 2/3 managed switch. It can be operated
from a browser, PC Windows application or SNMP. The entire
functionalities can be easily managed and monitored. This switch is
powered by a PowerPC. The software update can be downloaded and stored
in Flash memory.
The Enhanced Switchware package provides
some software layer 3 functions, allowing local IP forwarding (IPv4/
IPv6), static and dynamic protocols (RIP, OSPF) routing, proxy-ARP and
DHCP-relay. These L3 functions are managed through a CLI interface. ComEth3200b
combines in a single equipment a layer 2+ switch and an IP router.

Switch
Management
Onboard firmware are
implemented with Power on Built-In Test, maintenance functions
and network (BootP/DHCP) updating functions.
Management software provides a wide range of configuration functions on
any port : transmission speed/mode, VLAN, RST/STP parameters, mirroring,
etc.
Supervision functions get lots of information in real time on the switch
status in particular the local temperature. Optionally the management
can be done through an out-of-band Ethernet port.
MIB and RMON counters and private information are reachable from SNMP
agent, HTTP web-browser via Ethernet.
This Open Application, named SWITCHWARE, is carried out by a
PowerPC processor running under LINUX.
